1:17 pm - Let Me Explain... No, There Is Too Much. Let Me Sum Up...
Hi, Everybody! (Hi, Dr. Nick!) Okay, I'm hearing TV and movies in my head today (I see dead people). Haven't decided yet if this is a good thing or a bad thing. (Are you a good witch, or a bad witch?) Hmmm... maybe a bad thing. I can't seem to make it stop.

I have been a horrible, naughty little bunny and not updated in months. I know this. My bank account knows this, as I've wasted two months of paid-accountness. Anyway, moving on. I'm all moved to Oregon and it went great - I just find myself with exponentially less online time than I had before the move, hence the non-posting.

I'm trying to slowly wean myself back onto my online life, as the good folk over at [info]godrics_hollow can attest, but it's been a slow process. My job is terrific and I'm ridiculously happy to be here. My only regret is having less online time because I used to be able to be online at work, and now I'm not.

I've just looked at my friendslist and there is NO FUCKING WAY I'll ever be able to wade back through all those posts so... um... if you said something important, tell me here :) I'll try to keep up better now that I'm back online for the most part.

Very sorry to have neglected you. Working on a ficlet to try and make amends. Johnny was robbed Oscar Night. And that is the bulk of the fandom news I need to convey.

Am still sans bed. It makes me sad. I've been sleeping (but not well!) on a pull out bed for over a month now. Mind you, we BOUGHT a bed two weeks ago. It hasn't arrived yet. Am going to the Bed Store today to beat up the salesman who said I might have it as early as last fricking MONDAY!! *pout*

I guess that's it for now... love you all.

PSA... Just so everyone knows I didn't fall off the face of the planet (well, I kinda did)... I'm still alive, just soo soo soooooo busy and frequently wihtout internet access.

Am in the process of moving and going on holiday. Leaving tomorrow and won't be back until Jan. 15, then have 5 days to madly pack house before hitting the road to move, which will take over a week. So, yeah. Big chunks of time with absolutely no internet access here.

But I'm not gone... only temporarily. Miss you all!

10:10 am - Today, I saw a man yelling at his cock
No, really. I had to pull into a gas station, cause my coolant level was too low and I needed more, and outside the little convenience store thing at the gas station, there was an actual ROOSTER... actually, a really pretty one, I wish I'd had a camera. And as it was morning, he kept crowing! It was very confusing and somewhat cool.

Anyway, as I was getting ready to leave, having refilled my coolant, he was standing right outside my car door, and I didn't want to back out and accidentally run over him... and then this old guy comes out of the shop and starts yelling at the rooster! He tells it to 'come here right now' and admonishes it that 'you know better than to stand in the parking lot'... and here's the great part...

THE COCK LISTENED TO HIM!

Seriously, it came away and went to him, just like he asked it to.. totally made my day. Roosters very smart. *nods sagely*

In other news, today is the last day I'll be in to work in two weeks (read last day with fast, reliable internet access). I'll be at home, frantically packing all my possessions for the move to Oregon, and will be online sporadically. Weep for me. ;)

10:20 am - Biscuits With Extra Love
*bounce bounce* So I finally got brave and submitted "Biscuits With Extra Love" to The Dark Arts.. and it's already getting positive comments - more than "The Claiming" ever did, in fact.

Maybe I should stick to one-shots. Heh. Anyway, I'm happy I finally posted it and that it's getting a positive response.

*bounce*

In other news, does anyone know what makes icons take up a certain amount of memory? I'm trying to make a ROTK icon on Photoshop and I SWEAR it's smaller than others I have (number of photos, etc) and I keep taking stuff out, and each thing I remove only seems to remove like 1k... and I can't get the damn icon under 40k!! It's not that big - there's nothing more I can cut out without just coming up with a whole new concept. I don't understand. :(

4:12 pm - CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!!!!!!!
Okay, this is a large problem.

They are doing a background check before I can begin my job in Oregon - in fact, it has to be done before they can finalise the OFFER for the job in Oregon. I have to start the job by February 1, or it goes away. I have to visit my parents in Hawai'i, give two weeks notice at my job, pack up my house, and drive across the country at some point during this period of time. Fine. It wasn't easy, but I managed to work it all out. I've got time off work, I've got airline tickets to Hawai'i (paid for!), I've got plans for making the move. It's tight, but it's doable. All I have to do is wait for the detective doing my investigation to clear me.

I sent in my paperwork two weeks ago. They told me it would take about 2 weeks to do the background check. They told me the detective would be coming out here to talk to people (boss, personal references, etc). I started getting a bit nervous when it's been 2 weeks and none of my references have heard anything from this guy. So, today I call to see how things are going....

FUCK )

PS ROTK was phenomenal but I simply cannot cope with writing a review right now.

10:29 am - Funny Funny Headline
I forgot to put this in my prior post, and it was long enough without adding an ETA... but I was watching CNN this morning and they were talking about Saddam Hussein, and they had superimposed the following headline over the bottom of the picture to encapsulate the topic they were discussing:

"Experts say: Osama bin Laden more difficult to find than Saddam Hussein."

*boggle* Are you serious? I mean, really? You think so? The guy we've been looking for longer and still haven't found is harder to find than the guy we've already found?? No WAY!!!! [/sarcasm]

Really... I wonder who these "experts" were and how much they were paid for this groundbreaking study.

9:25 am - FUN Letter-meme madlibs thigy... and news update
Dear Santa,

I have been a good girl.

It really wasn't my fault what happened at Akiko's Christmas party. It was Catherine who spiked the punch with too much Hot Chocolate. I can't help it if I drank 12 glasses. It was so good---smelled and tasted just like Vanilla.

I thought it was funny when I put Andy's Sweater on my head and danced the Tango on the Bed while singing `Silent Night'. I didn't mean to break Akiko's PDA and don't know why Akiko would sue me for Mayhem.

I don't remember calling Peter's wife a fuzzy sheepdog---even though she looked like one with blue eye shadow and green lipstick!

And when I threw up on Aimee's husband's nose, it was only because I ate too much of that stroganoff.

After all that fun, I admit I was a little tired. So I fell asleep on my way home and drove my jeep through my neighbor's attic. I don't think that was any reason for my neighbor to call me a loud kitten and have me arrested for kidnapping!

So, Santa...here I sit in my jail cell on Christmas Eve, all hungry and swollen. And I'm really not to blame for any of this putrid stuff. Please bring me what I want the most---bail money!

Sincerely and frostily yours,
Kalar'i (Really a nice girl!)

P.S. It's only 72 bucks!

The above letter blatantly stolen from [info]cscottd who is on my NaNo journal friendslist. Go make your own here!

In other news... packing, packing, and more packing. Slow going, but we're making progress. Oh, and I get to go to Oregon for ONE DAY to look for a house and then continue on to Hawaii to visit my parents in January. Should be lots of stress interspersed with a little fun.

Umm... and Wednesday I get off work early to go eat a really really fancy, expensive, and yummy lunch, compliments of my boss, and then go with hubby and boss (during work hours and while being paid!) to see ROTK!!! *bounce* Have I ever mentioned that I have the coolest boss on the face of the planet and I will miss her desperately once I move?

And speaking of working and moving.. today begins my last full week of work - provided I pass the background check and officially get the job in Oregon. Yes, starting next week, I'm using most of my accumulated sick time to stay home and pack. Huzzah!

10:29 am - Public Service Announcement
Thank you everyone for voting... the kitten has a name! (or rather, he has two names). We have decided to continue using Mad Eye as a baby petname/nickname. Cause we used it for awhile, and it suits him. But there were also many votes for another name that suits him, so we've officially named him... BUTTERS! So, yeah. Officially, it's Butters, but he'll also answer to Mad Eye. *grin* Thanks for all your help.

On a happy note, here are some (slightly older) baby pictures, now that his eyes are all better and he is alert and playful.
Butters at Five Weeks )

In slightly sadder news, we took Butters to the vet for a follow-up on all his baby sicknesses, and to start his shots now that he's old enough... they tested him for Feline Leukemia and FIV (the feline version of HIV), and he tested positive for FIV. :( The doctor says this is not conclusive... he's so young that it's possible that his mother had FIV, not him, and he is just showing the antibodies that he got from her. In that case, he should test negative and be fine in 2-5 months. We'll have to keep testing him. But if he truly IS positive, and not just showing a false positive - well, it's terminal. :( So... yeah. That was quite a blow. The poor little guy. He's fought so much already.

The vet says she's only seen two cases of FIV+ cats in this state in 5 years... it's apparently really rare.. just his luck. :( So... we're really holding out hope that it's a false alarm and he'll test clear in a couple months, but the bad thing for him is that it IS transmittable to other cats, and we have two other cats who we will NOT risk, which means he has to stay in quarantine until we know... 2 to 5 more months of living in the bathroom and not getting to play with the other cats until we have a definitive answer. Then.. if he is okay, he can join the family. If not, we'll have to look for someone who has no other cats (so he can't get them sick) and who is intersted in having a terminal kitty... :( Poor, poor Butters.... keep your fingers crossed that it's a false alarm.

10:34 am - Great Pirates Review Quote
Okay, I'm putting this here mostly for myself, cause I don't want to forget it, but I just read the following quote in this article.:

"Much in the same way that tortilla chips exist as a delivery system for salsa, "Pirates'" sole reason for being is to bring us Johnny Depp's performance as Capt. Jack Sparrow."

I love this so much! What a great metaphor... food metaphors are the best. It could only have been better with toast. ;)

1:36 pm - I bought a paid account! Celebrate by answering this poll!
w00t! Paid account goodness... off to upload icons in a minute, but first, help to name the kitten. Still not sure if we're going to keep him or not, but we have to call him SOMETHING for now. Plus, the vet wants a name other than 'stray' to put on his medical records. So... below are the choices. Help us out. :)

Poll #215017 Name the Kitten
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All

What should we name the kitten my husband found? Please vote for only one, but you may choose one in combination with the LAST option, if you like.

View Answers

Mad Eye (After Mad Eye Moody, since one eye was swollen shut when we found him)
5 (41.7%)

Ragetti (The Pirate in POTC whose eye kept popping out, same reason as above)
1 (8.3%)

Cosmo (After Cosmo in "The Fairly Oddparents" cause he's happy-go-lucky and kinda ditzy like this guy)
3 (25.0%)

Butters (After Butters in South Park - same reason as above)
3 (25.0%)

Swag (You know, the pirate treasure?)
1 (8.3%)

Use the name I checked above, but keep "Mad Eye" as a nickname!
3 (25.0%)

ETA: Oh, yeah, and if you're wondering, the reason we're looking for votes and not just sticking with "Mad Eye" is for one, we like the others, too, and for two, "Mad Eye" seems hard to make good nicknames from and all our animals have about a billion nicknames. :)

11:08 am - Short Update
I got my POTC DVD last night and had to watch it... love it, but sadly, was having trouble staying awake near the end. This is in no way POTC's fault - it's Mad-Eye's fault. The damn kitten requires me to get so little sleep that I'm just exhausted. :( Will watch the movie lots more times when I'm more awake for commentaries, extra features, easter eggs, etc.

In other news, had to go pee in a cup for the pre-employment drug screening yesterday. Was an interesting experience. They make you lock your purse in a little box and take the key, so you can't smuggle anything into the bathroom with you. Then, they tell you to wash your hands (you can't do this until they invite you to), then they give you a cup to fill up to a certain line.. and tell you to go into the toilet where you have 3 minutes to fill to the line!

No pressure!!

Luckily, I had been intentionally NOT going all afternoon so that this wouldn't be a problem, but it's still a bit nervewracking. What if I hadn't been able to produce in 3 minutes? Plus, she told me not to flush, which should be easy enough, but it's such a reflex to flush and I was terrified I would forget, so I sat there the whole time chanting, "Don't flush, Don't flush, Don't flush" in my head.

When you finish, you come out, hand her the cup, she pours some into a sample vial, THEN she allows you to wash your hands.. then you initial the sample vial, THEN she goes in, looks in your potty, and flushes it herself. Then you can retrieve your purse. So strange.

Also, I would not like the job of official-checker-of-other-people's-potties.

And I sent out my background check form today... all 26 pages of it. Now they can start poking around and finding out all my deep dark secrets before my hire is finalised. Heh. I hope he doesn't hear about the... ;)

4:32 pm - Life Update and Kitty Pics
First off, thanks to everyone for their wellwishing on my new job - you guys are the best!

Secondly, I just finished my NaNoWriNo Novel! Now begins the editing, and I'm sure there will be lots of it, but at least I have it all down, and I like it. It's a good place to start.

Thirdly, as promised, pictures of the kitten. He is currently going by "Mad Eye" after Mad Eye Moody, since when we found him, one eye was swollen shut with infection (it's doing great now, by the way). Still hoping to find a home for him, but I have to share piccies cause he is so CUTE!

9:26 am - Big Ass News Day
Wow. Yesterday was a huge day for me. First, in the morning, I found out that my husband needs both a root canal and a crown ... this means like 3 visits to the dentist over the next month, tons of money in dentist bills, and probably a good deal of discomfort for him. :(

Second, he found a kitten at work. I'll prolly post pictures tomorrow, but this kitten is CUTE. It's only about 4 weeks old, weighs less than a pound, and has an eye infection. :( Poor lil' guy. Of course, my husband refused to take him to the animal shelter, so he's camping out in our (heated) bathroom, we took him to the vet yesterday and spend over $100 on his apointment and meds... *sigh* I love kitties, really I do, but we already have two. I really don't want one more. I'm hoping to find someone to take him, but if we can't find someone, I suppose we'll have to keep him cause my husband is already in love with him. I don't suppose any of you live near North Carolina and want an adorable, tiny orange tabby? :) :) :)

Then, last night, a few minutes before 8pm (5pm Pacific time), I got a phone call from a nice lady in Oregon and...

I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!

Um... yeah. Can you see me bouncing from where you are? A YEAR AND A BLOODY HALF I've been trying to get a job to start in my field, and I finally did it!!!!! Everything from here on out will be easier.. cause.. you know, I'll have experience. :) *bounce bounce bounce*

That is all.

Adopt my kitten.

8:49 am - Going To Oregon
I'm going to Oregon next week! I got a second interview (that's right - they talked to me once, and they're still interested!) for a supercool job, so I have to fly out there next week. I have no idea how many people they're still interviewing or how steep the competition will be, but... I got a second interview! This has to be a good sign.

AND... I get to see my mommy!! Heheh... yeah, my mom is flying out to meet me there so I'll have moral support and get to hang out with my mum, who I hardly ever get to see. Should be fun, once I stop throwing up from pre-interview nerves. ;P

8:54 am - I still exist...
To my friendslist:

I've been neglecting you. I know this. And I'm sorry. I still love you all, and I still care about HP fandom and POTC fandom and all that. Please don't think I've abandoned you. I've just entered the madness known as NaNoWriMo and it's sucking up most of my free time. Come December, I'll be back and babbling, like usual. :) Until then... think of me fondly. Or... if you want to hear my NaNo-induced babbling, it's going on over at [info]nanochira, but I'll have to add you for you to see anything.

Yours,

1:05 pm - So THIS is what it feels like to be on a winning team
Happy Hallowe'en!!

It's my favourite holiday of the year and I'm not dressed up *le sigh* Things have been so crazy lately, I haven't had the time to do a proper costume and I didn't want to do a half-assed one, so... waaah.

And NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow... can you hear my engine revving?

In other news, my husband played his first hockey game on a new team last night. He's been playing for some time on two different teams, and each team he was on was near the bottom of their respective leagues. My boy was one of the best players on his teams, but that is small consolation when you always lose.

Well, he and some other guys finally decided to cut some dead weight and some guys from two different teams got together to form a new team. And a random guy no one knew showed up at the rink, asking if any teams needed an extra player, so they grabbed him, too.

They had a FABULOUS game, and they WON, and every single guy on the team has skills. There is no dead weight. This is new and exciting. (My husband still was one of the best, but I knew he would be...nyah). And this new team... last night was the first time they've ever played together. They're still getting used to working with each other.. they can only get better! I have high hopes.

Haven't posted in a while.. haven't had much to say. Still nothing much is going on, except that I'm gearing up for NaNoWriMo, which I'm very excited about. I'll be starting up a NaNo journal soon to post babblings about my novel-in-progress, excertps under friends-lock, etc and not spam my dear friends into oblivion. ;) Um.. if you're interested in my novel-progress babblings and want to be added to that journal's friendslist so you can read my chapters, blurbs, etc, just comment and let me know and I'll add you.

Did the Hallowe'en thing cause it's the cutest meme ever and Hallowe'en is by far my favourite holiday... results under the cut tag, and lots of loff for [info]cereal who was by far the kindest to me. [info]bailiwick is a punk. ;P

12:33 pm - Andi and Young Nymphadora Ficlet
Blame it on [info]childofautumn. We were talking about how I seem to keep writing pregnant!Andi fics, and she mentioned that sooner or later, I would probably start doing family fics... she meant Andromeda's family growing up, but I thought she meant Andromeda and Ted's new little family and in that split second of misunderstanding, a plotbunny was born.

This is Andromeda and Nymphadora. It's sweet, cute, and sad.
Nymphadora is old enough to start asking some uncomfortable questions...
